Worship Services
Fountain Valley United Methodist Church is a Bible-believing church for all ages. We have three Sunday morning worship services, 8.30am Family service, 11.00am Contemporary Service (The Connection), and 11.00am traditional service.
Birth
Our church was founded in 1964, and at the time Fountain Valley was a new city. Fields and farms surrounded the church, but a few Christian families had the vision of planting a church for the new folks who were moving to the area.
In 1988 our current pastor, John McFarland was appointed to the church. It was then that our church confirmed our vision to be a Bible-believing church for all ages. The church has grown steadily over the years in numbers and maturity.
Ministries
Our youth ministry reaches strongly into our neighborhoods, and serves as a big draw to the church. Many of our youth come at the invitiation of their friends, and subsequently invited their parents to the church as well.
In 2003 it was apparent that our church was having difficulty retaining young adults, so we started the Connection, a contemporary worship service and young adult fellowship. Now the Connection has a strong, passionate band and a steady attendance of all ages, but mostly young adults.
Our church has had a strong call to help the homeless and needy. Each Saturday we present a ministry called Welcome Home where nearly sixty homeless guests can take showers, do laundry, get haircuts, hear the gospel, and enjoy a huge breakfast. We also house six homeless guests for six weeks each year in a network called Shelter for the Homeless Interfaith Program (SHIP).
Vision
Our vision for 2009 is that at the end of the year, discipleship will take place primarily in the home. Households, rather than the church campus, will be the place primarily responsible for Christian growth.
